Periodontal Treatment

Periodontal therapy, also known as non-surgical periodontal treatment, consists of two stages. Stage one focuses on controlling gum disease by removing bacteria from above and below the gum line.

This typically involves the use of local anaesthetic for subgingival cleaning to reduce inflammation and infection, helping the gums heal and reattach to the teeth. Once the periodontal condition has been stabilised the patient moves to stage two which is iupportive periodontal therapy (SPT). This is a long-term maintenance program designed to prevent the recurrence of periodontal disease after initial therapy. SPT includes regular professional cleanings, monitoring of periodontal health, and reinforcement of proper oral hygiene practices. Together, these therapies aim to halt disease progression, maintain gum health, and prevent tooth loss.
